Matt joined Hunter Healthcare from Monitor – the sector regulator for health services in England – where he headed the recruitment function for over seven years. Reporting to the Executive team, he led on search across the business and managed a large in-house team to deliver a five-fold increase in staff headcount necessitated by changes to Monitor’s remit under the Health and Social Care Act. Previously, he worked as a resourcing consultant at Transport for London, supporting recruitment to senior roles across multiple disciplines and service lines. Immediately prior to his move to the UK, he worked in New Zealand as an HR generalist for a public sector organisation and had a wide-ranging remit encompassing all aspects of HR from recruitment to employee relations. He spent his early career working as an occupational psychologist for a consultancy firm, advising public and private sector clients on assessment centre design and delivery, recruitment and competency models, leadership development, talent management, and culture and stakeholder surveys.
He has a BA in Criminology and BSc (Hons) in Industrial and Organisational Psychology from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand.
“Working for a health regulator over a number of years gave me broad exposure to the tough, complex and ever-changing environment of the national healthcare market. It became very apparent that many of the various and significant challenges facing the health system today and in the future could be addressed through strong leadership. Having supported one healthcare organisation find top talent over a sustained period, Hunter greatly appealed to me as an innovative and passionate team with which I could tackle the broader challenge of identifying the most progressive leaders to drive forward the health agenda at local, regional as well as national levels.”
