An opportunity has arisen to join Northumbria Healthcare NHS FT as a Non-Executive Director.

The Opportunity

We have a vacancy for a Non-Executive Director to join our Board and for you to use your skills and lived experience to improve the healthcare and health outcomes of the community we serve.

The Essentials

The North East has a mix of rural and urban communities and a mixed economy in terms of health, wealth and social deprivation. It is a region of stark contrasts. We are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities as an anchor organisation within our geography and in improving the health and employment prospects of our patients and staff.  We are seeking an individual who has experience of engaging with diverse social, economic and cultural groups, which may have been gained through links with the voluntary or not for profit sectors, community involvement or business initiatives.

You will need to have a genuine commitment to patients and the promotion of excellent healthcare and the reduction of health inequalities.  You will have experience of delivering and managing first class services to diverse groups at a Board level.

The Trust recognizes that a diverse board is essential help us address existing inequalities and we are seeking an individual to help shape its policy in relation to health and employment inequalities and this could be as a result of life experience or personal insights into one or more of the following:

  • The lives of people from socially deprived backgrounds
  • Those who live with a disability or significant long term condition
  • The challenges of rurality in relation to accessing services
  • Those who are from a BAME background
  • Those who are openly LGBTQ+
  • Those who have suffered long term unemployment

As a Non-Executive Director of the Trust you will need to demonstrate your skills and abilities in relation to :

  • Bringing independence, external perspectives knowledge and challenge to strategy development
  • Hold the executive to account by providing purposeful constructive scrutiny and challenge
  • Shape and actively influence a supportive, diverse and open culture in the Trust

All Non-Executive Directors must champion the standards of public life by upholding the highest standards of conduct and acting as a role model for the Trusts values. Applicants will need to meet the standards of the Fit and Proper Persons test and ideally live within or close to the populations we serve.
