Director of Capital Development and Property

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust

We are looking for an exceptional Director of Capital Development and Property to join our team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex).

As one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, UHSussex is proud to provide outstanding care to the people of West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and parts of East Sussex. Our seven hospitals host more than 1.5 million outpatient appointments, A&E visits, and surgery cases every year and we employ nearly 20,000 passionate staff across Sussex. We have bold ambitions – and in less than one year since our merger we have developed a new clinical operating model and strategy, enhanced our leadership team, and set out the ongoing improvements we want to make as part of the new ‘integrated care system’ to ensure Sussex is a leader in healthcare excellence. This is an exciting role that reflects our commitment to modern and fit-for-purpose infrastructure, and we are now seeking someone who shares our ambition.

The Director of Capital Development and Property is a highly strategic and technical

professional role. The incumbent will be responsible for the delivery of the £200m 3Ts (Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary Care) hospital capital build for Stages 2 and 3, following completion of Stage 1 this year. This will enable us to offer brand new, state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, providing improved patient care and experience. You will have oversight of all properties and lead on the development and delivery of the Trust’s Estate Masterplan, optimising estate utilisation across all 5 hospitals and peripheral sites. Externally, you will play an active leadership role to support the estates and property strategy across the Sussex system.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal strategic role in a newly-merged and developing Trust. The ideal candidate will have a demonstratable track record in delivering highly complex capital projects in the public sector with extensive knowledge of estates, property management and property construction. You will have an ability to develop effective relationships at an executive level and with a wide range of external stakeholders, and influence, inspire and unify those along the journey. You will be a compassionate, values-driven leader with strong emotional intelligence and high integrity.

We strongly encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly from under-represented groups, including disabled people and members of our black, Asian and minority ethnic communities to improve the diversity of experience within our senior leadership team.
