Dorset County Hospitals (DCH) is a forward looking and vibrant Trust. At our best, which we often are, we combine a friendly family atmosphere, very much part of the community we serve, with excellent treatment and care which matches the very best in the country. We are a medium sized District General Hospital. We don’t see our size as a limitation but as enabling us to be innovative, agile and personal in the care we offer and we are looking to appoint a new Chair who can help us continue on this exciting journey.
Dorset, like the rest of the country, is embarking on a new era in the development of the health and social care system. This will be an era of much closer cooperation between acute hospitals, general practice, community and mental health services, local authorities, the voluntary sector. Our focus will be delivering joined up services to our local communities that meet their needs, and tackle the persistent inequalities, of which health is one.
These changes call for a Chair with a passion for improving services through problem solving with our partners, someone who recognises the opportunities the hospital has to improve local lives more broadly through employment opportunities, as a major purchaser of local goods and through reducing our environmental footprint. The leadership qualities we seek are those that support collaboration, finding the right way forward with others and sharing responsibility for system outcomes.
You will therefore be joining Dorset County Hospital (DCH) at an important moment. You will have a chance to shape and lead the new arrangements locally and across the county. DCH has been an enthusiastic supporter of these changes and our new strategy is fully in line with them. There are huge opportunities here. We need our new Chair to grasp them for the sake of the local people we serve and to ensure the hospital stays at the forefront of exciting new directions for health and social care.
