Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) is one of the largest NHS pathology networks in the country. A joint venture between five NHS Foundation Trusts, BSPS operates with a unified management, financial and governance structure and employs more than 1,500 clinicians, scientists and support staff, serving a population of 3.2 million and processing over 50 million tests per year.
Due to the recent expansion of the network, we have undertaken a comprehensive governance review and one key outcome of that is our decision to appoint an independent, non-executive Chair to lead us through the next stage of our growth, providing effective leadership and working with the CEOs of our partner organisations to secure the long-term vision and strategy of BSPS.
The ideal candidate will have a clear commitment to the NHS and to the values and principles of our partner trusts. With excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills and a strong desire to improve outcomes for patients and service users, s/he will have a demonstrable track record in effective partnership working and prior experience as a Non-Executive Director. While not essential, some understanding of the NHS, which could have been gained in either an executive or non-executive capacity, would be helpful.
