Securing entirely new business unit talent for Cepheid

Situation

Cepheid successfully launched into the MDx Infectious Disease market in the early 2000s, they were hugely successful, shown by being acquired for around $6bn by Danaher. About 2 years ago, they wanted to diversify and launch into Oncology across the Globe and needed to recruit an entirely new business unit.

Task

After not being able to find the right talent directly, they approached Hunter Life Sciences. Scott Campbell needed a Medical Director to lead the Clinical Study and Medical Affairs efforts across EMENA. Anne Postulka also required support in the Nordics and Germany in her search for Market Access Leads. Ian Martin lead all the recruitment process and efforts and needed me to conduct a thorough and detailed approach to the searches.

Action

For all the roles we were recruiting for, we launched a retained search process, engaging all key stakeholders along the journey, offering a genuinely consultative service. Our findings and recommendations documented regularly in our long-listing reports. Once completed, we moved to act as their first stage interviewers and held competency-based interviews, detailing our findings in our shortlist report. Once completed, candidates were interviewed directly by Cepheid, and we began our referencing process; two references before the final stage, and one reference upon successful appointment. In all cases, we successfully filled the positions.
