Carbon Reduction Plan

Reporting Year 2022

Supplier Name: Hunter Healthcare Resourcing Ltd
Publication Date: 23rd of September 2022

Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Hunter Healthcare is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2021
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations: 2021 was the most recent year where we could access a full year of carbon emissions data, hence it is used as our baseline year.

Baseline year emissions:

Scope 1: 0 kgCO2e

Scope 2: 5,085 kgCO2e

Scope 3 (included sources):

  • Upstream transportation and Distribution – 0
  • Waste generated in operations – 0
  • Business travel – 761 kgCO2e –
  • Employee commuting – 6,110 kgCO2e
  • Downstream transportation and distribution – 0

As Hunter Healthcare is an administrative business, we do not produce any emissions within the Scope 3 categories of waste, downstream and upstream transportation. Similarly, we only have one company car, which is electric and we do not create any other emissions applicable to Scope 1. These emissions have therefore been marked as ‘0’.

Scope 2: 5,945 kgCO2e

Scope 3 (included sources):

  • Upstream transportation and Distribution – 0
  • Waste generated in operations – 0
  • Business travel – 862 kgCO2e
  • Employee commuting – 8,905 kgCO2e
  • Downstream transportation and distribution – 0

Total Emissions: 15,712 kgCO2e

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets. We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 7,477tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 50%.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Our Scope 2 emissions have naturally increased in 2022 due to large growth within the company and therefore the need to move to a bigger office. We calculated our scope 2 emissions from our monthly energy bills. Our business travel emissions were created by reviewing our Trainline account and calculating the number of miles travelled so far within 2022. We were then able to predict the amount of business travel train journeys that will run until the end of 2022 and included these in the final figure.

To calculate our employee commuting emissions, a staff survey was sent to the company to gather data on individuals’ mode of transport and journey distance. We received a total of 49 responses, 36 of whom travelled via the tube, 10 via car and 15 walk or cycle to work. Using this data, we were able to calculate the average journey distance for our employees. We based the amount of journeys from the data that on average, there are 228 working days per full time employee when accounting for annual leave and Bank Holidays. We accept that we did not receive responses from all of our employees, and that we are missing data for 20 members of staff. As Hunter Healthcare is an administrative business, we do not produce any emissions within the Scope 3 categories of waste, downstream and upstream transportation. Similarly, we only have one company car, which is electric, and we do not create any other emissions applicable to Scope 1. These emissions have therefore been marked as ‘0’.

In order to meet our pledge of reducing 50% of our carbon emissions by 2027, we have created carbon reduction strategies for Scope 2 and 3:

Scope 2

  • We will be working with our landlord to switch our electricity supply to 100% renewable energy

Scope 3 – Business Travel

  • Where possible, we will aim to reduce our business travel by instead arranging meetings via video conferencing.

Scope 3 – Employee Travel

  • We are going to re-promote our cycle to work scheme, to encourage employees to cycle to work, therefore reducing our CO2 emissions.

Additional Measures

  • We have recently built a People & Culture team within our company. In the summer of 2023, we will create an environmental awareness training programme for our employees.
  • We will also commit to offsetting three tons of CO2 per year via a carbon offsetting project.
